Blog Day 2007

It’s Blog Day 2007, and this is my first time to participate. Since Andrea’s Recipes is a cooking blog, I will introduce five food and cooking blogs that I have started reading and enjoying in the last few months.
A Year From Oak Cottage and Marie’s Muses, both by Marie in the UK. She lives with her husband and their border collie in a beautiful cottage in Kent that’s connected to a manor house where she works as the chef. I’ve been enjoying the English countryside vicariously through her eyes. As she says, she’s living a foodie’s dream:
“I love my job here as the cook up at the big house. I get to cook every day and fulfill all my culinary fantasies at someone elses expense!”
Vanielje Kitchen and Vanielje Kitchen Cook Book, both by African Vanielje in the UK. She’s a chef who was born in Africa and cooks up delicacies with a mix of international influences. She introduced herself to me when she offered up one of her delicious desserts for Grow Your Own, and I’ve been a fan ever since.
“The kitchens of my childhood reflected my heritage, loud, boisterous, always full, the air thick with laughter and spices, a simmering melting pot of cultures and influences, French, English, Dutch, Malay & African, and underpinning it all a deep reverence for family and food, and the smell of home: vanielje.”
Jugalbandi by Bee and Jai in the U.S. These gals folks first came into my radar back in February when they linked to one of my posts. When I started reading their site, I was impressed with the lovely Indian vegetarian food they produced. The photos are beautiful and their posts on gardening are informative.
“This blog is our means of reasserting our commitment to a natural, healthier lifestyle, and to a less toxic world.”

Andrea, thank you so much. I feel really embraced by the foodblogging community. It is so sweet of you to include me, and especially nice since I’ve been mentioned by two blogs which I have bookmarked and who are both writers, what an honour. Maybe next year if I’m still around it will be my turn. Daunting thought. Thank you so much and I would love to join another grown your own if you keep doing tehm.
p.s. I have just discovered a year at oak cottage and am loving it as I have worked on a similar estate and am now lucky enough to live on one. Keep going Marie.

Andrea, I am so honored that you would think to include me in your blog day list! I have only just started doing that journal, having been doing my Muses one for sometime now. It took me quite a few months to figure out how to use blogger but now I think I have gotten it all sorted out and you will be seeing a lot more posts from me on that page from now on! I really enjoy my work, and my life and writing about it. It is my dream to actually be able to cook and write about it as a living. Dreams can come true so who knows what the next year will bring. In any case, I am having fun doing what I am doing right now and it is always so nice to know that other’s appreciate it. Thanks so much!
African, Marie, Bee & Jai, thanks again for participating.
Bee & Jai, I feel like a dork! I’ve corrected the post.
