Wow, you’ve been to Saipan? I was born and raised in Guam and have been to Saipan for work and fun many times. I’ve been in Hawaii since 2001 and Spam is a tradition in all three places.

Hi Fran! Actually, I worked in Saipan for four years, teaching at a private school there. And I’ve been to Guam many times!

  3. Wasn’t this fun? I feel like one of the cool kids now. ;) I just want to know why Rice Krispie Treats weren’t on the list!

I like your additions. I think I do better at those than some of the original list. :-)

    Hi Andrea,

    thanks for visiting my site!

What’s wrong with foie gras? Is the taste too “ducky”? Or is it an ethical thing?

  7. Andrea says:

Jenny, I had to look up a couple of things on the list!

Nate, it’s not a taste thing as I enjoy duck, especially Peking duck. It’s the gavage that gets me. I don’t eat veal, either. As I learn more about care of animals raised for food, I try to be conscientious about that sort of thing. I know that there are humane sources of those products, but they are also way outside my budget.

Wow, you know the world is indeed a small place. I am part Guamanian (my mother is from Guam), and I’ve spent time on Saipan as well. Yap and Palau too (I was really disappointed to see Palau on Survivor, as it was such a pristine place when I was there).

At any rate, great additions to the list! I posted my list earlier today (link is in my signature) and we have similar “won’t try” choices. Tho fois gras is still on my list. :)

    Thank you! And Hafa Adai!
