Q: Does your site use cookies?
A: Yes, this site uses cookies to remember your name, email address, and URL for the purpose of commenting. The advertising networks that serve the ads appearing on this site collect information about the number of visits to this site as well as information about browsing habits, but they do not collect any personally identifying information.  We do not collect any other information such as phone numbers or addresses.

Q: What is your privacy policy?
A: We do not nor will we ever sell personally identifying information about you. We use third-party advertising companies (BlogHer, Six Apart, Google AdSense) to serve ads when you visit our website. These companies may use information (not including your name, address, email address, or telephone number) about your visits to this and other websites in order to provide advertisements about goods and services of interest to you. If you would like more information about this practice and to know your choices about not having this information used by these companies, visit the Network Advertising Initiative site.

Q: What are Third Party Advertiser Cookies and Web Beacons?
A: This web site participates in Six Apart Media, a comprehensive advertising program provided by Six Apart Ltd. for publishers all across the Web.  This section of our privacy policy describes how Six Apart Ltd. and the third party advertising networks and advertisers that display advertisements through Six Apart Media (collectively, “Advertisers”) collect, use, store and disclose data from visitors to this Web site.

A “cookie” is a small amount of data, which often includes an anonymous unique identifier that is sent to your browser from a Web site’s computers and stored on your computer’s hard drive.  Cookies can be used to target advertisements relevant to your interests, based on your visits to different Web sites, to provide traffic measurement and other analytics and to conduct research.

A “Web beacon” is an electronic file on a Web page that allows a Web site to count users who have visited that page, to access certain cookies and to provide auditing, research and reporting for advertisers.

When your browser requests a page that displays advertising from one of the Advertisers, the Advertiser may view, edit or set its own cookie through your browser.  In addition, the Advertiser may place its own Web beacon in the page, which may be triggered by your browser’s request.

Advertiser Privacy Policies

If you would like to contact the Advertisers to learn more about their privacy policies and what options (if any) they offer to opt out of their data collection and use, please follow these links to their Web sites:

Some of these third party advertising networks are participants in the Network Advertising Initiative (”NAI”), a cooperative of online marketing and analytics companies committed to building consumer awareness and establishing responsible business and data management practices and standards.  You can learn more about NAI and how you may “opt out” of targeted advertising delivered by NAI member ad networks here. http://www.networkadvertising.org

Q: Will you send me a recipe for _____?
A. I’m sorry, but I don’t have time to research recipes for each individual request. I recommend Food Blog Search and FoodieView.com for recipe searches.

Q: Do you have any recipes for people with food allergies?
A. When cooking for someone with food allergies, always communicate with them and discuss their needs to ensure food safety. For more information on cooking for people with food allergies, visit The Food Allergy & Anaphylaxis Network or Kids With Food Allergies.

I learned about cooking for people with gluten allergies through my sister, who was diagnosed with celiac disease as an adult, though I am no expert in this matter. I’ve tagged recipes gluten-free when the recipe is completely gluten-free, though sometimes it might contain ingredients that come in both regular and gluten-free versions, such as pasta. If you cook for someone who needs gluten-free ingredients, please check the recipe ingredients list thoroughly and make sure all your ingredients are indeed gluten-free.

Q: Do you take orders for birthday cakes?
A: No, we just make cakes for our family.

Q: Can you post instructions or a picture of the Superman/R2D2 cake?
A: We do not have any photos of those cakes, which were made years ago by Michael’s brother Jeff Meyers, the person responsible for starting the family tradition. He’s quite creative and talented and actually made the Superman cake when he was a young teen.

Q: I posted a comment, but I don’t see it on your site yet.
A: Due to some recent spam problems, I’ve increased the strength of Spam Karma. Unfortunately this means that some legitimate comments are flagged as spam and held for moderation, but I de-spam the legitimate comments a couple times a day. Once I do that, your comment will show up.

Q: Do you do all of the work on this site yourself?
A: I make the food (except when documenting someone else’s cooking), take the photos, write the content, and do most of my own tech work (use WordPress as my blogging platform and modify themes created by others). There’s a handful of supporting photos scattered here and there that are not mine, and you’ll notice that those photos do not have my watermark on them. My talented brother-in-law Jeff Meyers helps with creating logos for the site.

Q: What’s your review policy?
A: If you would like me to review a food product, cookbook, piece of kitchen gear, or garden or household items, please note that all reviews will be done on my reviews blog Andrea’s Reviews. You may contact me for further information. No comment spam, please! I am selective about products I review and do not accept all items offered. I do not do restaurant reviews, although if I like a restaurant it will probably get mentioned in a random post at some point. Also, I do not do paid reviews. Due to the regulations with my primary advertising network, as of April 2, 2009 I no longer host sponsored product giveaways on Andrea’s Recipes but I can host them on Andrea’s Reviews.

Q: May I use one of your photos or blog posts?
A: All of my original photos, recipes, and text are copyrighted. My work is published under a Creative Commons Attribution-Noncommercial-Share Alike 3.0 United States License. Please be courteous and ask before you use any of my work, whether for noncommercial or commercial purposes. I also request a link back to the original post to give proper credit. If you would like permission to use some of my work for commercial purposes (i.e. print in a magazine, newspaper, book, or other such use), please contact me for further information.

Q: Will you link to my blog/site?
A: My blogroll is a personal thing; it reflects what I enjoy reading. My blogroll changes about once a month as I add blogs that I like and delete blogs that no longer publish.

Q: I’m starting a food site/blog. Will you please take a look and tell me what you think of it?
A: I wish that I could help out everyone who contacts me, but with my busy work schedule and family life it’s simply not possible, so please don’t be offended if you do not get a response.

Q: Where can I get helpful information on starting a food blog?
A: Food Blog S’cool and Food Blog Alliance are excellent resources, and the members make them great and helpful communities. Visit the home pages for information on how to join.
