New Favorites from Other Food Blogs
Here’s another installment of my monthly yummy finds list. These are all very simple and light for summertime.
- Cold Soba Noodles with Dipping Sauce (Just Hungry) – Believe it or not, the first time I had cold soba was on a flight from Japan to the U.S. Breakfast service was coming around, and the flight attendant asked me if I wanted the American breakfast (eggs, sausage, etc) or the Japanese breakfast (cold soba). I think she was quite surprised that I chose the soba, and I’m so glad that I did! My love affair with soba was born that day. Maki does a beautiful job of demonstrating this simple Japanese fare, which makes a nice dish for hot summer days and nights!
- Soy-Grilled Mahi-Mahi (Kalyn’s Kitchen) – I’ve been grilling mahi-mahi for years, and I think this recipe is a keeper. It did taste a bit sweet to me, so I reduced the sugar and it was just right. Kalyn is correct that mahi-mahi is a fish, not a dolphin, so don’t believe any of those ugly rumors you hear.
- Lemon Mint Cucumber Water (A Veggie Venture) – Flavored waters are perfect for summertime, and this one is nice and refreshing!
New Favorites from Other Food Blogs

The food blogging community is very prolific and it’s pretty easy to find a recipe for just about anything if you dig around for a little while. This is a list of recipes from other blogs that we recently tried and are now family favorites.
- Spanish Rice (Simply Recipes) – We’ve played around with this recipe a bit, adding cumin or chopped chiles.
- Pork Katsu (Nook & Pantry) – Like Amy, I don’t like to deep fry stuff, and her pan-fried version of tonkatsu is nice and crispy and quite tasty. Her katsu sauce recipe is also a winner.
- Italian No-Knead Bread (Farmgirl Fare/A Year in Bread) – I know, not everyone likes no-knead bread, but it’s hard to disagree with Susan’s version made with her Italian sausage seasonings. I made it with our Sun-Dried Tomato Pesto and then we ate it warm smeared with roasted garlic. We’re still playing around with this recipe, trying different savory variations, so I’ll have a post on it soon.
