Grow Your Own logo, green leafThanks to everyone who joined us this month! We had 19 participants from seven countries, and we cooked with our homegrown thyme, onions, garlic, chickens, asparagus, parsley, basil, chives, arugula, mint, Swiss chard, ransoms, tomatoes, pandan, oregano, rosemary, strawberries, cilantro, black-eyed peas, and lemon balm.

Grow Your Own #11 has begun! If you are new to Grow Your Own, visit the Grow Your Own page to learn more about the event. Deadline for entries is the 28th of every month and I post a round-up a few days later, on or around the 1st of each month.

Goat Cheese and Onion Pizza

Christi of In Search of Self (Texas, United States) added some of their freshly grown thyme to this caramelized onion and goat cheese pizza. I think she delivers, but you’ll have to call to make sure! ;) Read more

Grow Your Own Round-up #9

Grow Your Own logo, urban gardenThanks to everyone who participated! This month our entries come from Brazil, Philippines, Netherlands, Greece, and the United States, and as always I have fun visiting the sites and reading the stories.

The news for this month is I changed the arrangement of the round-up a little bit, as you’ll see below. Trying to make it work the other way was a nightmare each month, and I was coding the round-up by hand in Textpad and copying it over and praying everything would align properly when I clicked publish. So I think we’ll stick with this…much easier and the images are larger. So going forward please send your photos in 200×200 pixel size (no more than 200 pixels in either direction). I’ve modified the instructions on the Grow Your Own page as well.

Grow Your Own #10 is off and running. If you are new to the event, visit the Grow Your Own page to learn more about it. Deadline for entries is the 28th of every month and I post the round-up a few days later, around the 1st of each month.

Grow Your Own Round-up #8

Grow Your Own logoThanks to everyone who participated in March! We have some wonderful dishes to sample from! I also want to send special thanks to a few people who have helped me with Grow Your Own.

  • Thanks to Susan of Farmgirl Fare for writing a post about Grow Your Own on her blog In My Kitchen Garden.
  • Thanks to Sally of A Year of Eating Seasonally for writing a post about Grow Your Own.
  • Thanks to Andrew of Spittoon Extra for adding Grow Your Own to Is My Blog Burning? The submission form on the old site never worked for me, and Andrew graciously added the event each month. (Now that the site has had a total makeover, we can add events ourselves. How cool is that?)
  • Thanks to Cate of Sticky Date for adding Grow Your Own to the calendar each month.
  • Thanks to Lisa of La Mia Cucina, one of the beloved founders of The Daring Bakers, for adding the logo to The Daring Bakers site each month.

If you know of any blog posts or articles written about Grow Your Own, please send the links my way so I can properly thank the author.

Grow Your Own Round-up #7

Grow Your Own logo, farmOne of the things I enjoy most about Grow Your Own is the variety, and we have plenty of that this month. We have 12 participants from Crete, Singapore, Philippines, Brazil, Australia, and the Unites States and we used 22 different homegrown ingredients in our dishes. How’s that for creativity?

I have couple quick announcements before the round-up:

  • The Grow Your Own page now has links to all the round-ups so that you can easily find them. Thanks to Susan of Farmgirl Fare for the suggestion!
  • March Grow Your Own is underway. The deadline for this month is March 28.
  • I need to apologize to one our participants from last month because I inadvertently left her out of the round-up! My humblest apologies to Kim of Live, Love, Laugh, Eat! I included her entry in this month’s round-up and listed it first.

Here are our delicious entries for February! Click the photos to visit the posts. Read more

Grow Your Own #6 Roundup

Grow Your Own logoThis edition of Grow Your Own seems to focus on simplicity. Maybe it’s the cold weather here in the DC area, but the dishes we’ve served up using our homegrown foods make me think of all things simple, homey, and comforting. This time we had twelve participants from eight countries, and we cooked with our homegrown Meyer lemons, fennel, artichokes, basil, parsley, tomatoes, garlic, courgette (zucchini), eggs, beets, peppers, sage, cilantro, mallunggay, and bitter oranges. Every time I do one of these roundups, I find myself wanting to grow more things in my garden! Thanks for continuing to inspire us with your homegrown dishes.

Grow Your Own #7 has started, and the deadline is February 27.

Grow Your Own #5 Round-Up

Grow Your Own logo, basketHappy New Year! December was a very busy month, but we still managed to make some dishes using herbs grown in our kitchen garden. With temperatures ranging in the 20s to 40s F, it’s just too cold to grow produce outdoors! We have mint, seven different types of basil, rosemary, thyme, oregano, Italian parsley, cilantro, habanero peppers, and saffron crocuses growing in the sun room. My experiment with growing grape tomatoes has not been successful thus far, but I will keep trying.

Many thanks to all the participants of Grow Your Own. This time we have made dishes using our own homegrown chickens, rosemary, cassava, and basil.

Grow Your Own #6 has already begun, so be sure to send in your entries by January 29. And now, the round-up! Click the photos to visit each post. Read more
