Lemon Yogurt Cake

I’ve had to work very hard on my mixing skills. When I first started cooking I was convinced that a hand mixer was the perfect solution for all mixing and in my enthusiasm I would beat all batters to death then wonder why my muffins looked and tasted like hockey pucks. I didn’t have Dorie or Ina hanging over my shoulder sharing tips on how to fold gently, but boy could I have used their help. I still shudder when I see “gently fold” in the recipe instructions, knowing that my technique isn’t quite up to par. My batters always deflate a bit because I either become impatient while wondering when the flour and the wet ingredients will finally unite or I have to hurry up so I can stop the boys before they destroy the house or do something silly like ride a flattened cardboard box down the stairs. Naan, Fluffy Style

Fluffy Naan

I love these warm pillows of goodness and my boys love watching them bake. As the dough puffs on the stone in the oven, the boys proclaim it to be “magic.” And when I take the rounds out of the oven, the boys are so excited they can’t keep their hands off them. They think it’s pure torture to wait while I brush on the garlic butter and sprinkle the sesame seeds.

The interior is soft and light thanks to the addition of milk and yogurt. They’ll only keep for a couple days, but if you have someone in your house who loves bread like my boys do, you won’t have to worry about it.

Super Easy Kid-Friendly Fruit Smoothies

I’ve been on a quest to create the quickest, easiest, and healthiest fruit smoothie that I could make for my kids. I tried this recipe on my boys, and they love it! The all-fruit spread works great because the fruit is already mashed up and there is no sugar added. I also use a blender bottle instead of an electric mixer for easy cleanup. This recipe makes one smoothie. I serve the smoothie in the take and toss cups with the straws.
